The Rainhill Young Musician of the Year Competition

"The competition has helped boost my confidence for playing in front of an audience"
Lidong Xiao, RMF Young Musician of The Year 2011

This competition is open to any young musician either living or studying in the North West of England. This includes weekend schools, training choirs or orchestras, as well as private tuition and school tuition.

We want to attract as many young people to perform for us as possible and regularly have entrants travel long distances to play for us! Please refer to our rules and regulations of the competition for more information!

Since it began in 2010 it has become the flagship event of the Festival, offering young people an opportunity to perform, receive constructive feedback from expert examiners, and developing a sense of achievement and well being for all.

The Competition has two strands, a 1st round where finalists from each relevant age and instrumental group are selected, and a finals evening, where each finalist will receive a trophy and have the chance to win one of £625 worth of prizes, including a 1st prize of £250 and the prestigious Mike Doyle Memorial Trophy.
